All Women Class III+ Owyhee Rowing School

We are listing a few select dates to offer a “row your own” rowing school and starting it off on the Owyhee with an All Women Rowing School.  On this trips, you show up learn some details on how to rig you own private 12 or 13 foot raft provided by WRO or you are welcome to bring your own raft as well.  Twelve footers are the sports cars of the river world and super fun to drive and learn on.  On these trips, we will coach you and help you polish your rowing and river skills.  We will talk techniques on the shore in camp and take extra time scouting some of the more challenging rapids with a focus on reading water.

Highlighted skills building:

Boat Rigging- Learn how to rig your frame, evenly disperse the weight in your craft and keep your straps tidy. Setting yourself up for success, tricks of the trade. Avoiding danger lines. 

Rowing techniques- How to use your body and maintain proper form, staying in your rower’s box. When to “pull or push” or use “forward or back strokes”. 

Ferry Angles- Downstream vs. upstream ferries.

Oar Management- When to ship your oars, forward or backwards? Feathering your oars- when and why. 

Reading water- Emphasis on how rapids are formed, hydrology and identifying hazards. 

Scouting rapids- We will stop and scout significant rapids and talk about effective ways to recognize your line from the shore and from the water. 

Rescue theory and practice in camp- We will work on knots and cover rescue concepts in camp. Practice rope use and discuss evacuation procedures. 

The All Women Owyhee trip is lead by Dove Miller. She is a bad A$$ career international river guide who has many river and rafting skills to share! Besides years of professional boating experience she is also ACA Level 4 kayak instructor, ACA Level 4 Paddle Rafting and Rowing Instructor and ACA level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor.
